1-to-1 Therapy

Children and Adolescents

My speciality is working with children and adolescents of all ages, which ranges from young children, teenagers and young adults. I offer 1-to-1 psychotherapy covering a wide range of issues including low self-esteem, anxiety, low mood, exam pressure, depression, self-harm, emotional regulation difficulties (anger), attachment difficulties, divorce, poor self-image, social issues, drugs and peer relationships, abuse, trauma, suicidal ideation and much more.

How does it work?

Initially I will carry out a psychotherapy assessment, which is usually between 1-3 sessions before I begin any work. These first sessions include one session with the parents and carers and then two with the child/young person alone.

This is an important part of the therapeutic process because it helps me to make an assessment of their circumstances, see their suitability to psychotherapy; is psychotherapy the right therapeutic intervention for them? can they make use of it? and it helps me to think about what it is they might need from me. It also helps to give the client a sense of how the future treatment will be.

Following those initial sessions, I will outline what I can offer your child before continuing any further treatment.

What to expect

You can expect a relaxed and friendly environment that will be bespoke to your child’s needs. For younger children, often a play-based approach to therapy is most effective and the therapy room is equipped with a wide range of toys and sensory experiences such as sand to suit children’s needs. For older children, talking therapy may be more appropriate.

The initial assessment sessions will enable your child to see how comfortable they feel in the environment.
